Friend Jacking and Social Media

I joined facebook a couple of years ago. I didn't realize at the time that this would be my main source of daily contact with my family, friends or clients. I never really signed in and had no idea of the power of connection and insight that it possessed, until the beginning of last year.
I friended and followed what my friends were doing, and my family, some local photogs that I knew and a few of the ones I loved looking to for a peril of wisdom and inspiration. One of the inspiring: the fabulous Justin Lee. I remember one image that he shared perfectly, a gorgeous bride and incredible picture. A few weeks later I was visiting Justin's facebook page and that beautiful bride was one of his "friends". I have no idea why, but I friend jacked her. She looked like someone I'd hang out with, so I thought "why not". Ummm, she totally called me out on it.
Betsy Tomasello did accept my friend request and sent me an email to go along with it. If I recall it said something like "I am not sure who you are or how you found me, but I'm glad you did." I was shocked. I didn't even email her back for a full 24 hours because I was caught and a little embarrassed. I did email her back though and even came clean about my friend jacking. We have chatted back and forth since and I am so glad that I found her and even more glad that she emailed to ask why. Betsy is the photographer extraordinaire behind Betsy Blue Photography Her work is beautiful, inspiring and magical.
I have been lucky enough to connect with a ton of great people, clients, old friends and stay in touch with family all because of a little genius that is Facebook. Next, I hope to master twitter.

Couture Baby Evie, 9 months old...Potomac Point Winery || Stafford, VA

I am an explorer. I love new places, I love just getting in the car and driving and I love vacation. When we were first stationed in Virginia nearly four years ago, Erik took a work trip to Jax Beach, Florida. He flew out bright and early and was calling by 10a asking me to overnight his work boots. After determining that the overnight cost would be the same as the price of a one way trip in the Suburban, I packed the kids up in the car [they were 8,7, 18 months, 18months and 3 months old] with swimsuits, sunscreen and flip flops and off we went on a 12 hour adventure to deliver daddy's boots. That's how I roll.
Always up for something new and a little stir crazy from the winter weather keeping most of my sessions inside, I was craving something different. I started researching indoor locations near Quantico Marine Corps Base and my search led me to the Potomac Point Winery in Stafford, VA. When I emailed Evie's mom, Missy something like "I know she is only 9 months old, BUT how about the winery...it's bea-u-tiful!"
As awesome as Missy is, she's said yes, let's do it! So off we went to explore and oh.my.gosh!! Evie has the biggest, most beautiful dimples in the world and I am ecstatic that we tried somewhere new. The gracious owner's of Potomac Point Winery gave us free reign of their beautiful location and I am forever grateful.

**My web email is crazy this weekend and won't give me my messages. I think it is now fixed, but if you have sent an email through the website this weekend, please please resend!! I promise to get back to you asap. perfectlyposhphotography@verizon.net

Another Friday Faves... The World Wide Web, Amazon and Joel from Adorama

What, what.. it's time for another Friday Faves.. I think my easiest post to put together all week. There are some things that make my life truly happy. God, my husband, my kids and the world wide web.
Honestly, I can spend hours lost in surfing. Some days I don't even have a purpose when I set out to web surf. I check my email, then on to my favorite blogs, the
MSN home page and CNN.
Then my favorite past time. Shopping. I know to many this won't come as a shock. I love shopping, like love, love it. Like it could be my Valentine if I didn't already have one. At the mall, an antique shop, online it doesn't matter. My fave: Amazon. I can even window shop via my screen, from my couch, in my pjs at 2am, add things to my cart, monitor when the prices fluctuate and have my items to my door within 24 hours. It doesn't get much better than that in my shopping world.
Then I met Joel with Adorama Camera. My online shopping for all things camera related just got a thousand percent better. He is genuinely kind, thoughtful and willing to help in any way at all. I recently bought myself a 70-200mm 2.8L IS and the first place I inquired was with Joel. He helped with my questions, was quick with a response and is just a pretty amazing guy [not to mention that the price was ah-mazing]. Thanks Joel! You rock!
So while I continue my quest for the end of the web surfing world, I stumbled about the gem of Rock N Roll Bride . Oh.my.rocknroll.goodness it is fantastic! Talk about some inspiration outside of the box. I love looking through their images of all things vintage and rock wedding like. They are just fun, creative and fantastic.
Just for fun- because posts are better with pictures.

Officially Unofficial... SoCal Bound

Many times this week I have wondered if God created crippling snow storms to remind us that we need to slow down. My life in fast forward came to a relative screeching halt, but presented an entirely new set of fast forward presets.
I have been house dreaming via Realtor.com for the last couple of months and enduring the headaches that come with comparing kitchen sizes, master bedrooms and garages and looking at google maps to see how far we could be from the Pacific Ocean. It's really a love-hate relationship, but I just can't stay away. I love house dreaming. This week it was time to get serious. We are officially unofficially Southern California bound by the end of May.
So I spent a few days purging and playing and catching up on some things that need to be in order, and addressing our move. God definitely gave me a few days to slow down, get things done and refresh for life in fast forward. Posh Photography will be put on hold in the Northern Virginia area as of April 17th to get ready for the big move [don't worry I'll be back a couple of times before Christmas] and I'm officially opening my calendar up in SoCal after June 15th [San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles.. hit me up].
No more Arctic winter storms in my future.... The view of our neighbors porch.

Apples.com, Fancy Night and the Glory Family in Wonderland || Gaylord National Hotel

The snow has started in DC again and Quantico Marine Corps Base has been virtually all but shut down for nearly a week. If we are facebook friends then you may have seen my status update yesterday. Harley asked if we could have caramel apples and I explained to her that we didn't have what we needed and that the stores were closed because of the weather. Her solution,"Why can't you just go on apples.com and order them?"
Harley is my party planner. I am pretty sure that she is going to be a wedding planner extraordinaire when she gets older. She loves to plan every detail, all the way down to personalized invitations... umm, and she's 5! Later in the evening, she was still asking for caramel apples, but she also wanted to plan "fancy night" for the family in honor of daddy's return from Kuwait. Harley invites everyone with her cute invitations and makes them dress up in their Sunday best and we eat apples, strawberries, marshmellows and angel food cake dipped in chocolate and caramel fondue. We have fancy night once every few months and it is so much fun.
So, last night I made a quick stop at Wegmans to surprise Harley with all of her treasures on my way back from The Gaylord National Hotel and a session with The Glory Family. They were incredible and the 3 feet of snow that waited for us beyond the hotel lobby were never on our minds. It was truly like a spring wonderland with an amazing family and the beautiful backdrop of this gorgeous hotel and convention center.

It's like the Scholastic Book Fair.. and a Sneak Peek

There are some advantages to being snowed in. One, I needed to clean my room. Horribly. I had been putting it off and putting it off and the clothing pile was unbearable. I guess it really is my fault because I like to hang everything. If I could just shove my clothes in drawers, I know a ton of my room stress would be alleviated. So yesterday I was feeling pretty domestic and I decided to clean, a lot. I purged my drawers and my room and didn't stop there.
I moved on to the kids rooms. I knew it had been awhile since I had really gone through their toys and since it seems that they have all hit a growth spurt in the last month [my grocery bill reflects this observation!!] it was time to revisit their drawers too. Ohhh, and the books. The books are absolutely, positively out of control!!
Since the kids were little and we had to give up weekly couple date night, we decided to make Friday night family date night. We usually go out to dinner then off to the book store. Although, mommy an daddy date night has been reinstated,we still have family date night at Borders almost every week and some how the kids con us into buying them more books. I am a book addict [Hello, I my name is Nicole and I am a book addict. furreal] and I think the kids are also. So, we have a bookcase in each of their rooms and two giant Ikea Expedit bookcases in the office too. Its like my own personal Scholastic Book Fair in our house on multiple floors. I couldn't bring myself to purge any of the books, but I am lobbying hard for a Nook or a Kindle wireless e reader for Valentine's Day. I am hoping that will curb my crazy book obsession, or at least mask it.
Here's a little sneak peek on a project I have been working on for American Tutu. They launch on March 1st and I am so excited!

Friday Faves... Snow days, Ikea and Kait Emerson Designs

I have to say that this week has gotten away from me. I am almost thankful to be snowed in so that I can play with the munchkins, catch up on editing and work on a project with the fabulous Emily of American Tutu. So while I am watching the snow fall all around me, its time for another Friday Faves!!!
This week I am thankful for snow days. I know I know, be careful what you wish for. I am really praying to be caught up by the end of the estimated 40-48 inches that we are supposed to get by tomorrow night and have plenty of play time with the kids. Being snowed in has got to have some advantages.
Ikea. Oh Ikea, how I love thee. This week I loaded the kids up and off we went. I think they like it as much as I do. The house finds that I have to have, picture frames, adorable baskets for my Expedit bookcases. All of it. A few months ago my old desk finally met its death and it gave me an excuse to revisit the Mikael desk. Plenty of work space for my disheveled office.
The Knot Magazine. The treasures that I find when I flip through the pages. All things girlie and beautiful and full of details. Although I have no wedding to plan, I do have a couple of friends getting married and the pages of The Knot are pure eye candy for inspiration.
This week I am checking out Kait Emerson Designs. Feanna's Unique Children's Boutique is bright, fun and full of my favorite kid things.. clothes. I am always in awe of the pieces that she designs, they are gorgeous and a dream to photograph. If you need some ideas for an upcoming session, please check her out.. her items are amazing!!
Here's a little sneak peek of the American Tutu project! Can't wait for this to launch!

Sweet Little fingers and toes.. Baby Cora, 8 days old.

Yesterday was one of those days that were magical. Busy, fun, and filled with sweet little fingers and toes. Baby Cora was angelic. She slept, slept and slept some more. Often I envision things that I want to try at a shoot, but I try to incorporate my vision with the way the day unfolds and sometimes they don't match up and we just go with the flow. Yesterday was so much more than I could have dreamed. Cora was like a snuggly piece of silly putty willing to mold any way that we could imagine. OOoooh I just love her sweet little face. I could not wait to share a few of my favorites.

Sneak Peek... Baby Cora, just 8 days old

I just downloaded the images from today's session and I couldn't help but share a sneak peek. Baby Cora is just 8 days old and slept about 2 hours of the 2 1/2 hours we were together. She is absolutely gorgeous and if I could have taken her home, I would have.
Full preview coming tomorrow.

Living Life in Fast Forward... Hartford Wedding Second Shooting for Justin and Mary

People come into your life often unexpected, and make such an indelible impact that it turns your world upside down. The last few months have been that for me. I am not quite sure how I stumbled upon Justin and Mary, or when I started following their blog regularly, but I knew instantly that they were insanely talented and that I loved their style.
Over the next few months, things started getting busier and God was placing amazing opportunities in my path, but I needed some help. I needed help deciding the firm direction of my business in 2010 and beyond, I needed help with the weddings that I had booked and I needed help from people that had not only been there, but taken the opportunities and made them extraordinary. That's when I found the Spread the Love tour.
Right before Spread the Love came to Washington DC in January, I sat at my desk with my head in my hands and wondered if I was really could do the things that I had committed to for this year. In a moment of panic, I emailed Mary and asked her for some advice. I nearly begged for any peril of wisdom that she would share that she had wished she had known before she entered the crazy world of wedding photography. I couldn't imagine that this would be the start of life unexpected. Mary did one better, she offered to hang out while they were in DC and help. Justin and Mary [and Julia too] offered hours of advice that changed everything for me.
This past weekend I drove to Connecticut to second shoot for Justin and Mary at Annette and Mike's beautiful Hartford Wedding. They patiently answered my endless stream of questions, offered tons of advice and were their insanely talented selves. Seriously magical!
J&M, Thank you! From the bottom of my heart! I cannot even begin to tell you how much your time and investment in other people is appreciated. Your friendship and encouragement have pushed me forward through all of the craziness that is my life right now, and I can't thank you enough. oxox, *Nic
